For the most part NCD’s come from all over the world. There are some areas associated with specific colors and there are as follows:
Pink, Violet, and Brown - Argyle Mine Australia
Blue - Cullinan mine - South Africa
Green - South America (often Guyana)
Purple - Russia
This depends on the color, but for the most part Radiant cut diamonds display their natural color very well. Others that are commonly found are pears, cushions. Uncommon are round diamonds, as generally they do not hold their color very well.
How do they differ from white or off-white diamonds? NCD’s are diamonds that through a variety of causes possess color other than colorless or off-white diamonds. Almost all diamond possess impurities (atoms other than carbon) occasionally these other elements cause a diamond to take on a color, these can be yellow, orange, blue or other colors. Natural Color Diamonds are diamonds that possess a color. Colored stones describe are a group of non-diamond gems that possess a color. They can range from rare and expensive (Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire) to relatively common (Amethyst, Citrine).
